Hi, I’m Sabrina Siegel, a Visual & UI/UX Designer focusing on the cross-points of design and psychology.

Shelves
Make reading a more meaningful hobby through activity tracking, rating, and sharing experiences.

Discover, track, react to your TBR.
Shelves is a book tracking platform integrated for desktop and mobile. It aims to
simplify and beatify the reading experience, allowing readers to easily track their activity, react to their experiences, and discover their next read.

Keeping up with your shelves should be easier.
Today, there are plenty of tracking apps for TV, movies, and books. However, they're made clunky and over-complicated with features.

Persona development
Research consisted of user interviews and competitive audits, which
led to the development of user personas, journeys and flows.

Competitor analysis
Defining the goals
After analyzing research, I was able to clearly identify opportunity areas.

Determining user flows
After considering user flows, I moved forward with a simplified navigation system allowing users to A. browse books and B. track reading progress. Users are also able to view their activity and shelves. In contrast to competitors, while there is opportunity for user interaction and community curated content, social is not a primary function of this app.

Design
From the beginning of this process, it was clear that the visualization of the platform would play a key role in project success. It was important to introduce a personality that was approachable, sleek, and intuitive in navigation. The gradient introduces a sense of calm, polish. The interface and interaction utilize a subtle glassy glow, amplifying a future-forward, innovative feel.
